Yarn Suggestions

55 (60) 65g of Lana Grossa Nera Boucle Yarn Orsetta (50g = 75m / 82yds)

Gauge

13.5 sts in 10 cm / 4 inches in stockinette stitch. Row gauge is not critical, as all sections are measured.

Needles

3mm (US Size 2.5) Circular 40cm (16inch) needles

optional: 4mm (US 6) needles for the cast-on.

In order to ensure you meet gauge, create a 10x10cm /4x4inch gauge swatch. Block your gauge swatch, and adjust your needle size to meet gauge

Materials

Stitch markers in 3 different colours, scissors, darning needle

Sizing

This bucket hat is available in sizes S (M) L

and fits a head circumference of 54-56 (57-59) 60-62cm / 21.25 -22 (22.5-23.25) 23.5-24inches

PATTERN
The Wilten hat is worked bottom-up. First, the wide brim is cast on. Stitches are then decreased and the straight

head section is worked. Finally, a series of decreases form the crown of the bucket hat. The decreases are done in a

way so that no apparent seam is formed on the brim, by staggering them within the rounds.

Cast on 104 (108) 112 sts on 4mm needles

Switch to 3mm needles, and join in the round. Place BOR.

Knit 3 rounds.

Next, place stitch markers:

colour A: BOR, 26 (27) 28 sts, pm, 26 (27) 28 sts, pm, 26 (27) 28 sts, pm, 26 (27) 28 sts. (these are now denoted as mA)

colour B: BOR, 13 (13) 14 sts, pm, 26 (27) 28 sts, pm, 26 (27) 28 sts, pm, 26 (27) 28 , pm, 13 (14) 14 sts (these are now

denoted as mB)

Decrease in the following way:

Round 1: k to 2 sts before mA, k2tog, slip mA (slip mB where needed), repeat ** 4 times. (4 sts decreased)

Round 2: k to 2 sts before mB, k2tog, slip mB (slip mA where needed), repeat ** 4 times. (4 sts decreased)

Repeat rounds 1 and 2 a total of 4 times. You should now have 72 (76) 80 sts.

Remove all markers.

Work in stockinette until work measures

16 (17) 18cm / 6.25 (6.5) 6.75inches from cast on edge.

Next, place markers as follows:

BOR marker, 18 (19) 20 sts - pm - 18 (19) 20 sts - pm - 18 (19) 20 sts - pm - 18 (19) 20 sts.

Then, decrease every round as follows:

k1, k2tog, k to 3 sts before marker, ssk, k1, sm, k1, k2tog repeat ** 4 times.

Continue decreasing every round until there are 20 sts in the round.

Remove all markers.

k2tog for 1 whole round.

Break yarn and pull the end through sts. Weave in all ends
